In the days following World War II, Duddy Kravitz, a teenage boy in Montreal, determines to be somebody. For that, according to his grandfather, he needs to own land. Duddy embarks on his ambitious pursuit, juggling several jobs at a time and using everyone in the process, but he suffers both financial and moral bankruptcy before he reaches his goal.
